Program Manager – Encarta Language Learning                                          1998-2001

 

ELL was a software product that teaches languages using video and other media technologies. Characters in a 3D world challenge the user to speak English and execute tasks based on their comprehension of English.

 

Key Contributions

·         Managed the development of all advanced media technologies for Encarta Language Learning products.

·         Created databases and processes that managed the content for Encarta Language Learning product.

·         Evaluated externally obtained UX data for integration in product functional and visual design

·         Oversaw and managed the 3D media production team of up to 15 members for Encarta Language Learning.

·         Developed a process to insert green screen video in a 3D world. This allowed the use of video to put characters into the 3D environment.

·         Created and oversaw specifications and processes around the 3D Explorer. 3D Explorer is an .OCX ActiveX Control that can be used in the following ways: as an embedded control in a web page, as an inserted control in a standalone application and as a control available to clients and customers using the Visual family of programming languages which gives high performance 3D graphics.

Production Manager                                                                                           1994-1998

 

Production manager for IMP (Interactive Media Productions), media production facility inside Microsoft designed to foster creativity and innovation as it pertains to media production and use. This space was centrally managed but used by many teams to create stills, video, audio, and 3D for use in all Microsoft products.

 

Key Contributions

·         Developed and managed an innovative underwater real-time web broadcast with the Jacques Cousteau society. Using an inventive system, broadcasts from ship via satellite were transmitted, encoded for viewing on the web.

·         Developed a video camera and computer rig to create near real-time surround videos that could then be put up on the web.

·         Collaborated with Intel to develop the Indeo 3.2 – 5.0 codec helping in the specification of new features and improvements.

·         Participated in UX research for Adobe on Premiere and After Effects

·         Created custom video compression technique for Julia Child’s CD that allowed for more resourceful and productive methods of displaying information.

Recruited to oversee and manage a digital image scanning and digital video production lab.
